Chief Operating Officer
Richard is responsible for service delivery to clients and the development of the firm's operational systems. Richard, who has 20 years of industry experience, joined from Stonehage Fleming Investment Management where he was responsible for the operating functions covering the service delivery to ultra-high net worth private families, trusts and companies. Prior to this, Richard held positions at UBS Investment Bank, JP Morgan Cazenove and Robert Fleming & Co. Richard has an Economics, Banking & Finance degree from Cardiff University.
Hiroko plays a central role in CapGen’s due diligence process – all funds and investment opportunities are reviewed by Hiroko who brings her long experience as a funds lawyer to bear on the firm’s investment decisions. Hiroko’s role as General Counsel internally means she also contributes to client and regulatory questions. Before joining CapGen in 2013, Hiroko was a Senior Associate in the investment funds team at Proskauer Rose. She started her career at Travers Smith as an investment funds Associate. During her time in private practice, Hiroko acted for institutional investors into private equity, hedge and other alternative funds, direct co-investments and secondary transactions. She also acted for fund managers on the structuring and raising of private investment funds. Hiroko has a first class honours degree from King’s College London in Music, a postgraduate diploma in Law and qualified in 2006 as a Solicitor in England and Wales.
Director of Private Investments
Dave leads CapGen’s direct investing function, analysing, structuring and advising on private capital opportunities for our clients. He oversees portfolios of direct investments worth $300million. Dave joined CapGen in 2007 from Bain & Company where he honed his skills in financial modelling, strategic planning and managing client relationships. Before that, Dave founded his own IT start-up focused on E-learning software and raised over £1million of funding for the enterprise. Dave has a degree in PPE from Oxford University and is a CFA® charterholder.
Direct Equity Investments
Ion joined CapGen in September 2016 and is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s direct investing and private equity efforts. Prior to joining CapGen, he was Chief Executive of a Swiss family office with responsibility for all aspects of leading the platform including asset allocation and capital deployment across private equity, hedge funds, real estate, debt and liquid strategies. Prior to that, Ion led Lord Jacob Rothschild’s Family Office and associated investment vehicles. He has also held senior investment and operational management roles previously with AIG Investments, Blackstone and GE Capital in Europe.Ion has a degree in International Relations and an MBA in International Finance from McGill University in Canada. He is a Canadian, Greek and French national and speaks French, Italian and Norwegian.
Senior Associate - Public Equity
Leonardo leads the firm’s public equities research function, with a focus on identifying outperforming managers in sectors which merit active management and appropriate passive instruments in other markets. He oversees allocations of over $500m. Leonardo joined CapGen from Cambridge Associates where he advised on client portfolios, focusing on traditional asset classes as well as private equity and hedge funds. He began his career as an analyst at Bloomberg. Leonardo has a degree from the Università Commerciale "Luigi Bocconi" in Economics of International Markets and an MSc in Banking and International Finance from Cass Business School.
Director of Accounts
Sharon oversees the firm's accounts function and the firm's regulatory reporting responsibilities. She also leads the office management and HR function. Prior to joining CapGen in 2006, Sharon worked in the finance function at Capital Event Marketing, Bravado International, Designhouse Consultants and Fisher Productions where she was responsible for accounts with a turnover of up to £20million. Before this, she worked as Group Finance Manager of the accounts department at ZGC Group where she managed the cash flow and oversaw the ledgers, cash books and credit control.
Senior Associate - Fund Analytics
Simon is responsible for CapGen’s fund analytics; his focus is on the quantitative analysis of fund performance and the development of proprietary tools which underpin the firm’s investment decisions. Simon joined CapGen in 2010 in the firm’s Analytics team before moving across to the Origination team. Simon graduated from the University of York with a first class with honours Masters in Physics with Astrophysics. He is also an IMC holder.
Head of Client Development
Clare runs the CapGen client development function, working with trustees, consultants and family office executives to match clients' requirements with the investment services of the firm. Before joining CapGen in 2013, Clare was a Business Development Manager for Northern Trust’s Wealth Management Group in EMEA. Prior to that she worked at Brown Brothers Harriman as a Relationship Manager working with large fund manager clients across Europe. Clare studied English and Related Literatures at York University.
Chief Technology Officer
Rob is responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of the firm’s IT platform. He oversees both proprietary and third party software and hardware solutions. Rob has been with the firm since inception, having previously worked as CTO at Sagitta Asset Management Limited. During a 30 year career in the IT industry he has amassed considerable experience in this field and has a wealth of knowledge in the finance sector.
Arabella manages the firm's relationships with professional intermediaries, both onshore and offshore. She was recognised as Women of the Year Leadership in the Large, Institutional category at the Citywealth Powerwomen Awards in 2017. Before joining CapGen, Arabella held the position of Client Director at Close Brothers Asset Management. Before this, she held positions at Dominion Corporate Services, PQR Financial Planning and Coutts. Arabella has a degree in European Business Administration from Middlesex University.
Senior Associate - Portfolio Management
Syaza is a member of the portfolio management team, which oversees the client portfolios. She concentrates on portfolio construction including matching client return objectives and constraints with asset allocation and risk targets and is responsible for implementing investment decisions. She is also responsible for identifying the systematic investments that best fulfil the portfolio construction needs. Before joining CapGen in 2015, Syaza held the position of Portfolio Control & Analysis at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. She started her career at MAN Group, where she worked as an Assistant Portfolio Manager. Syaza holds a Masters in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Imperial College and is a CFA® charterholder.
Chairman - Asset Allocation Committee
Bob chairs CapGen's Asset Allocation Committee which meets monthly to set and review the asset allocations for clients. He also authors CapGen's quarterly macroeconomic commentary wherein he shares his investment perspective, gleaned over 40 years in the investment industry. Bob has an extensive history in asset management having started his career in stockbroking in 1969. He went on to become Director and Vice Chairman at Mercury Asset Management, Global Chief Investment Officer at Citibank then Chief Investment Officer at Fleming Family & Partners. Bob studied Politics and Economics at the University of Kent. He also serves as a non-executive member of Bowmark Capital’s Investment Committee.
Direct Real Estate Investments
Sheldon leads the firm's direct real estate investment function. He is a professional investment principal who has transacted, managed and advised on over £2 billion of commercial real estate assets for private and public companies over a 20 year career. Before joining CapGen Sheldon managed HRE, the property investment and asset management platform of a private merchant bank, which he conceptualized and co-founded in late 2009. Prior to this Sheldon was Vice President of Global Real Estate in Deutsche Bank's Private Wealth Management division. Sheldon is a MRICS Chartered Surveyor and has a BSc (Hons) degree in Valuation and Estate Management from the University of Westminster.
Director of Private Capital & Fixed Income
Duncan leads CapGen’s private equity, real estate and fixed income research function, identifying the most valuable managers and strategies in these asset classes. He oversees $430million of investments across our portfolios, manages our relationships with general partners and represents our clients on several advisory boards. Duncan joined CapGen in 2008 from AXA UK where he oversaw the company’s direct property and private equity programmes, initiated their first co-investment deals and executed their first private equity real estate transactions. He started his career at Sapient Ltd and then at IBM. Duncan has a degree in Engineering from Imperial College and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Duncan is a CFA® charterholder.
Global Macro Strategist
Alex develops CapGen's macroeconomic analysis, drawing on a range of data sources to provide a robust framework for the firm's investment decisions. Before joining CapGen, Alex held the position of Economist & Global Quantitative Macro Team Leader at Roubini Global Economics where he was responsible for leading the organisation's global forecasting effort. Alex has a degree in Financial Economics with Econometrics, a Masters in Economics & Econometrics and a PhD in Economics from the University of Kent.
Head of Portfolio Analytics, Reporting and Data
Chris has 17 years of experience as a performance manager, leading teams to deliver performance and risk analytics within asset management. Chris joined CapGen from Legal & General Investment Management where he worked as a Performance Manager, responsible for producing and monitoring all performance and risk information for all funds across the company. Prior to this, Chris held positions at Pictet Asset Management, Bank of Butterfield and Cazenove Capital Management. Chris has a degree in Business Administration from Brunel University.
